Course Overview

Thursday
On Thursday afternoon The BIG House is open for those that are staying on site.
Lodgers have the opportunity to find their beds, settle in, grab a cup of tea, and relax before the evening gathering.
On Thursday evening we meet and greet together and set the scene for the weekend. We gather together and share some nourishment from the garden, share stories, perhaps sing songs, stargaze and socialise with fellow participants (“permies”) before the course commences.

 
Friday 
Origins of Permaculture / What is Permaculture & why the need / Permaculture Ethics

 What is Permaculture? Dan explores the origins, lineages & legacy of Permaculture’s pioneers and the role & relevance of permaculture in our current age. Then Dan’s discusses the importance of foundation ethics to hold the movement and its practitioners accountable.
The Principles of Permaculture
Discovering and applying David Holmgren’s 12 principles to guide decision making and actions.
Ecology, Energy laws and Terminology
Renew & deepen your understanding of Natures eloquent life cycles & processes that govern life & how we can apply these to guide good design & decision making.
In the evening we feast together on scrumptious seasonal fare before a close encounter and call to action with founding leader, Bill Mollison’s  Global Gardener documentary.
 
Saturday
Soils…the soul of life

 A dawn light immersion into the art, science and making of soils ultimate savior, compost. Traverse the footsteps of the masters of the mid 19th to 20th Century, whose work reaffirmed the wisdom & traditions of the ‘Farmers of Forty Centuries’ & the importance of soil health.
Then build your skill set in analyzing soil type.

Climate
Go from the global to local to deduce how governing climate processes
apply to the microcosm of the home & garden

Sunday 
Trees
Dancing with the morning dew, celebrating the functions & benefits of trees & re-earthing with the ‘Bushcare Squared’ method of reforesting the world.
Water…the source of life 
Meandering with water in the natural and urban environment.
Applying the principle of ‘catch & store’ to the precious drops passing through our properties.Then do a DIY urban rainbank & design principles for an integrated household grey water garden.

Aquaculture
Dive into household fish production… and an owner built freshwater swimming pool…visiting freshwater aquaculture systems in the hinterland hub of Pomona.

Weekend Workshop Cost
Early bird rate costs $695 (payment must be made in full by 31st of December) Full Rate costs $795 (payment must be made by 27th of January)
Book ALL four workshops at $625 each or $2500 for the complete Permaculture Design Course.

Cost includes nourishment for the duration of the workshop.
Please advise if you have any dietary requirements or restrictions.

Accommodation is available on site for $95 per night.
